ISCA Media Release – Indexation Core to Any Funding Arrangments
The Independent Schools Council of Australia (ISCA) has today welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement that it will continue to index its funding payments to non-government schools for the 2011 calendar year.
Mr Bill Daniels, Executive Director of ISCA, said that this positive decision was a key element of the funding arrangements by recognising that all schools are facing rising costs and increasing educational demands.
“Supplementing the Average Government School Recurrent Costs (AGSRC) is an important measure in supporting schools to deliver the best educational outcomes possible. Without this funding support by the Federal Government, parents of students in non-government schools would be fully shouldering the increases in educational costs of up to 7 per cent”, Mr Daniels said.
“Increasing educational costs reflect wage increases for teachers and support staff, and increasing investment in schools demanded by curriculum and technological change. Parents who choose the independent sector are continuing to make substantial financial commitments to meet the cost of schooling their children, paying on average around 60% of the cost of their children’s education from their after tax income.”
“Indexation is a core component of any funding model which is seeking to maintain choice and diversity in schooling.”
