ISCA Congratulates New Minister for Education
The Independent Schools Council of Australia (ISCA) has congratulated the Hon Dan Tehan MP on his appointment as Minister for Education.
ISCA Executive Director, Colette Colman said she looked forward to working with Mr Tehan on a wide range of school education issues, including Australian Government funding for non-government schools.
“The Independent sector is keen to work with Mr Tehan to progress work on ensuring fair and equitable Australian Government funding for Australian students,” said Ms Colman. “ISCA supports a needs-based funding model, consistently applied across the non-government school sector.”
Due to the stand-alone nature of Independent schools, Independent school communities highly value consistent, predictable and fair funding which ensures that schools across the non-government sector serving communities with similar enrolment profiles attract similar levels of Australian Government funding.
One in six Australian school students attend an Independent school and enrolments in Independent schools are continuing to grow, with the strongest growth in low and medium fee Independent schools.
Ms Colman has also thanked former Minister for Education and Training, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham.
“ISCA appreciates Minister Birmingham’s contribution to the portfolio and school education, and in particular his evidence-based approach to education reform,” said Ms Colman. “The sector wishes Minister Birmingham well in his new portfolio as Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment.”Back to top
